Henrik Stenson has withdrawn from the European Tour’s season-ending DP World Tour Championship because of a nagging rib injury.
The 2016 British Open champion last week appeared to suggest he sustained the injury during a promotional photo shoot ahead of the WGC-HSBC Champions, in which he was suspended in mid-air by wires and posed as a superhero with a cape.
Stenson later in the week denied that was the case, but no matter the when this is the what: A scan of the injury has ruled him out of contention for the event at Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai.
“Sorry to say that I will miss the DP World Tour Championship due to my rib injury,” Stenson, who won the Race to Dubai last year, wrote, in part, in a post on Instagram.
Sorry to say that I will miss the DP World Tour Championship due to my rib injury. I hope to be back soon to battle it out with the boys. Many thanks for your support and best wishes.
