Bears hire former Oregon HC Mark Helfrich as offensive coordinator, report says

The Bears have found their offensive coordinator, and this one will certainly catch you by surprise.

According to ESPN, Chicago has hired former Oregon head coach Mark Helfrich as the team’s new OC.

Helfrich spent the last year as a college football analyst for Fox Sports, but prior to that he was head coach at Oregon from 2013-2016. He started with the Ducks in 2009 as the offensive coordinator.

In Helfrich’s eight years with the Ducks, they had a Top-10 offense six of eight times. However, when Chip Kelly left to coach the Eagles in 2013, the Ducks’ offense steadily went down in national ranking. Oregon had the 36th ranked offense in college football in Helfrich’s final season in 2016 after being ranked first just two years prior.

The Bears have not announced the move.
