Johansson was in pursuit of Canucks forward Brock Boeser when it appeared that the 27-year-old lost his footing and collided with the boards. Johansson skated off and immediately went to the Devils locker room. The incident occured only a minute into the game.
Johansson has recorded five points in nine games with the Devils. But over the course of two games, the Devils offseason acquisition has been dealt a few unfortunate situations. He sat out of New Jersey’s previous matchup due to a lower-body injury, making it the first time he’s missed a game with the Devils. During the second period of Wednesday’s game, the Devils revealed that Johansson was being evaluated with an upper-body injury.
The Devils ultimately ruled Johansson out for the game.
After the game, Devils head coach John Hynes said that Johansson didn’t return to Wednesday’s game due to precautionary reasons, according to NJ Advance Media.
