After pushing Roger Federer to the brink Tuesday, 19-year-old American Frances Tiafoe said he was “proud” of his performance.
“I always wanted to play the best in the world, and I hoped I would be ready for it and give my best stuff no matter who I was against,” Tiafoe said (via the New York Post ) after his five-set thriller against Federer in the first round of the U.S. Open.
“I always dreamed of being on center court, playing the best in the world. Finally happened.”

Tiafoe, ranked 70th in the world, said he would be “thinking about this one for a while.”
“Obviously I’m not satisfied,” he said. “But to play that way gives me a good feeling.”
