Ghana is bigger than any player, Appiah addresses Kwarasey's absence concerns

Ghana coach James Kwesi Appiah has revealed fruitless overtures to hand goalkeeper Adam Kwarasey a recall to the national outfit.

The Norwegian-born shot-stopper has been out of the selection since pulling out of the Black Stars squad for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations on health grounds – the team then under the guidance of Avram Grant.

And Appiah, who replaced the Israeli coach in May, says reports that he has blacklisted the goalkeeper in the national team, due to their not-so-good past, are untrue.

“There is no single call-up where I don’t consider Adam Kwarasey,” Appiah told Nhyra FM.

“I talked to him and asked Richard Kingson [goalkeepers’ trainer] to take it up from there.

“Whenever it is almost time for call-ups, he makes excuses.

“No player should feel bigger than Ghana. Ghana is bigger than any player.”

Appiah and Kwarasey had a fallout at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil during the former’s first stint in charge of the Black Stars.
