Shillong Lajong will be eager to get back to winning ways after a humiliating defeat against East Bengal, when they face another Kolkata giant Mohun Bagan at the Yuva Bharati Krirangan, in Salt Lake on Thursday.
Bobby Nongbet’s men got off to a fantastic start after winning both home games against Gokulam Kerala FC and Churchill Brothers, but their winning run came to an end against East Bengal as they lost 5-1. But the newly appointed Lajong head coach feels that the absence of Sony Norde and Ansumana Kromah can give the visitors an advantage over the Maroon and Green.
“If there is no Sony (Norde) and Kromah it is an advantage for us.”
However, Nongbet admitted that playing against an in-form Mohun Bagan is always difficult and they will be under pressure.
“It’s a bit of pressure for us against Mohun Bagan considering how they played against Churchill. Also considering, Bagan’s current performance they look better than East Bengal.”
Nongbet believes that his team’s defence conceded early goals in both halves against East Bengal and that hurt them.
“In the last match, we conceded two early goals in first and second half which made it difficult to come back. But East Bengal played well.”
Defender Lawrence Doe who accompanied his coach to the pre-match press conference was all praise for Kromah and Norde.
“For me, Kromah is the most dangerous player. But all are good; they are a very good side. I respect Sony too; he is a very good player. For me, no team is different. They are a big team. They are very good we respect them”, he said.
On the injury front, Nongbet said that Yemeni midfielder Aiman Al Hagri is fit is available for selection, whereas Abdoulaye Koffi remains out of the squad due to injury.
Shillong Lajong will take on Mohun Bagan tomorrow at 5:30 PM IST.
