Justin Thomas will have some impressive help next week at the Sony Open.
With current caddie Jimmy Johnson battling an injury, Thomas has decided to use Jim “Bones” Mackay as his caddie during his title defense at Waialae Country Club in Hawaii.
“I think the world of Justin and I’m looking forward to working with him,” Mackay, told Golf Channel’s Todd Lewis.
Thomas, last year’s Player of the Year, received numerous applications to fill in as his temporary caddie, but he wasn’t having any of it.
Also as much as I enjoy and appreciate the caddie offers, I am all set haha. I have things planned for as long as needed until my man JJ gets back and healthy. Thanks for the concerns!

Thomas used his father as a replacement caddie for the final two rounds of the Tournament of Champions, but with Johnson likely out for a while, Thomas decided Mackay’s experience would be welcomed.
Mackay toted Phil Mickelson’s bag for 25 years, becoming one of the most successful player-caddie duos in PGA Tour history. He has not caddied since splitting with Mickelson last year.
