John Gibson dives to make miraculous save against Crosby, Penguins

John Gibson has a knack for making dramatic, acrobatic saves, and showed off that skill on Saturday against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

With the Ducks leading the Penguins 3-0 in the second period in Pittsburgh, Gibson preserved his shutout with a highlight-reel, sprawling blocker-save to deny a sure goal.

The save came against none other than Sidney Crosby, who elevated the puck and did everything to score besides beating the goaltender. Anaheim went on to defeat the Penguins, 4-0, with Gibson stopping all 29 Penguins shots to earn his first shutout of the season.

Gibson entered play Saturday with a .920 save-percentage, and the victory temporarily moved Anaheim into eighth place in the Western Conference. The Ducks, who have been missing key players like Ryan Getzlaf, Hampus Lindholm and Ryan Kesler for extended stretches this season are finally getting healthy, and have climbed back into the playoff race.

Gibson’s latest highlight also comes less than a week after he robbed Alex Chiasson of the Washington Capitals with this nifty glove-save.
