During his trip, Luiz offered himself to Barcelona, who are looking to sign a new centre-back due to the expected departure of Javier Mascherano.
However, due to Luiz being 30 and the financial implications of signing him, Barca are instead focusing on other defensive targets.

However, a transfer will be back on the table in 2018 and Barcelona are desperate to lead the pack in the race for his signature after such stinging failures to sign their targets during the summer, such as Philippe Coutinho.
