Meet NBC Sports' 2018 Winter Olympics reporters

NBC Olympics has assembled an eclectic team of eight reporters to cover the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics in South Korea starting Feb. 8. Drawn from a number of NBCUniversal TV networks, they’ll report from various venues and contribute to “The Olympic Zone,” the nightly, half-hour program that airs on NBC affiliates.

Included on the NBC team are “Today” show anchors like Natalie Morales with multiple Olympic Games under their belt, former NFL linebacker turned CNBC analyst Dhani Jones and rookie Olympics broadcaster Dylan Dreyer.

There are still some major announcements to come from sister network NBC News — including who will succeed fired anchor Matt Lauer on “Today’s” Olympics coverage.

NBC fired Lauer, one of the lead hosts for “Today” Olympics coverage for nearly two decades, for “inappropriate sexual behavior” on Nov. 29 after a colleague alleged he sexually harassed her during the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. NBC News declined to comment on Lauer.

Given the perilous political situation on the Korean peninsula, NBC gave staffers the option of skipping the event, sources said.

Here’s a scouting report on NBC Olympics’ reporting team in PyeongChang:

— Natalie Morales: The West Coast anchor of “Today” will work her seventh Olympics for NBC News, but this will be her first for NBC Sports. The host of NBCUniversal’s “Access Hollywood” will contribute to “Today’s” coverage from South Korea.

— Willie Geist: The host of NBC News’ “Sunday Today with Willie Geist” will work his third Olympics for NBC Sports. He previously served as host of NBCSN’s London Olympic coverage in 2012 and was a reporter at the Sochi Olympics.

— Dhani Jones: The ex-linebacker turned investor on CNBC’s “Adventure Capitalists” will work his second Olympics for NBC Sports after covering the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

— Rich Lerner: The play-by-play host for Golf Channel’s PGA Tour coverage will work his second Olympics for NBC Sports. Lerner served as golf studio host in Rio.

— Dylan Dreyer: The Olympics rookie works as a meteorologist for NBC News and weekday correspondent for “Today” and “Nightly News with Lester Holt.” She made her NBC Sports debut at the 2017 Kentucky Derby.

— Anne Thompson: Chief environmental affairs correspondent for NBC News.
