Patton Kizzire flirted with a 59 Thursday to grab the first-round lead at this week’s OHL Classic at Mayakoba.
Kizzire was 10 under through 17 holes, needing an eagle on the par-4 18th to fire a 59, but he settled for a bogey and a 9-under 62 in Round 1.

Vaughn Taylor jumped up the leaderboard late with three birdies in his last four holes to shoot a bogey-free 7-under 64 in Round 1. Taylor is in second by himself, but a very familiar name finished right behind him.
Rickie Fowler, making his 2017-18 season debut fired a bogey-free 6-under 65 with three birdies in his last five holes. Fowler had not played since helping the U.S. claim the Presidents Cup in early October.
