U.S. Open tennis 2017: Rafael Nadal beats Kevin Anderson in straight sets for third U.S. Open title

Rafael Nadal finished off the 2017 Grand Slam season with two Slam titles to add to his collection. It has been a dominant season through all four majors, but Nadal’s victory over 28-seeded South African Kevin Anderson at the U.S. Open gave him his 16th Grand Slam title. Nadal also won the French Open in July.

Nadal’s path to the final only included one seeded opponent, 24th-seeded Juan Martin Del Potro in the semfinal. Anderson entered his first career Grand Slam final and fell short to Nadal in straight sets. Anderson is the first South African to advance to a Grand Slam final since 1965.

Though Nadal has made it to all but one Grand Slam final this season, he hasn’t been in a U.S. Open final since 2013. With his victory on Sunday, Nadal now has three U.S. Open titles.
